I am sorry to say, but this is the first chuckle I have had so far this week. What a jerk your soon-to-be-exhusband is!!
I will assume that you have given all the relevant facts in your posting and I will tell you that the criminal charge is simply stupid. You must defend and defeat it.
A good attorney fighting for you will threaten all kinds of bloody revenge against your ex and his attorney if they do not have the charges dismissed today, now, immediately.
It is outrageous and frivolous. Go fight him, and do not give an inch because of this criminal charge.
Now, a bigger issue:
Now, dont take this wrong, but let me summarize:
you want a divorce, sometime soon.
you might have kids. if so, then child support and college tuition needs to be paid. measured in tens of thousand of dollars.
you probably have a house, and maybe some money saved. you might have a pension plan.
and you want to do this without an attorney's advice.
A mistake by you will likely cost you thousands of dollars, make your life more difficult, and possibly cause additional harm to the kids.
Hire an attorney. Go see an experienced divorce attorney located reasonably near you, and pay the attorney to review your situation carefully with you, and give you some guidance.
Go hire a lawyer, and figure out what you want to do.

Re: Marital credit care woes
Not sure if he has an attorney for the divorce, but it sounds like something a slimy divorce attorney would recommend he do to put some added pressure on you. I suggest you get an attorney to quickly squash this charge as it is a joke but it could go on for a long time if you handle it incorrectly. If you don't already have one, I suggest you get a good divorce attorney as well since it certainly sounds like its going to be messy.
I handle both criminal and family law. Its mostly all I do. My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 and we can discuss your situation in more detail.
