notice of debt sent to wrong address

Over a year ago, I made arrangements to have the final payments on an account taken out of my pay via auto withdrawl. It was done. Now I am being told there was a minimal balance left on the account but all the letters and calls indicating same went to an address I never lived at and did not provide the company with. The original company acknowledges all correspondance went to wrong address. The debt has tripled due to late fees, etc. The company sold the debt and suit is being threatened. by purchaser

How much is it? Are they willing to work with you? Without more info, I can't tell you if you should consult with an attorney or not.
