Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Past debt

When my son was only 10 yrs old I hired an attorney to represent him in a matter. The total bill was $6,000. I paid my half and my husband failed to pay his half. I recently received a threatening letter in the mail addressed to my now 18 yr old son holding him liable for that debt. Is this legal? Is this his responsibility?

Re: Past debt

On the facts you have stated, the debt is not your son's responsibility. He was a minor at the time the debt was incurred and all work was performed before he reached majority.
