Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Paying Back Family

I'm not sure if this was the right area of law. My mother gave me some money to get a car and start car insurance about 2 yrs. ago. I'm pretty sure I signed a paper a piece of paper that she had wrote out and all it said was that I'm going to pay back the 3000.00. Now that she needs money she said that she was going to put a lien on me, is that possible? And do I have to pay back the money? And I do, is it possible to send it in prepaid cards for like groceries or whatnot(she has a drug problem and I do not want to be paying for them)?

What a mess. I am sorry to hear of your troubles.

I can not tell whether or not there is an enforceable loan, just from what you have said. You really need to meet with a lawyer and get some advice. If you are in Wisconsin, I will not be able to assist. If you are in NJ, please feel free to give me a call.

I am in northern New Jersey. I will discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free. I would be happy to help you out.
