Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

Paying medical bills of a spouse who has died

Does a spouse have to pay outstanding medical bills of a dead spouse?

If a parent does not have a spouse are their children liable for the medical bills?

Rarely must anyone pay anyone else's bills directly.

Unless you signed something to that effect before the services were given, they can't pursue you, the spouse. They MIGHT be able to get that money from the estate (if there is one), though.

Likewise, children don't pay a parent's medical bills unless they agreed to in writing in advance also!
