Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

payment posted incorrect

I sent a double payment for my car in October. It was posted incorrect to another account making mine past due (2) months. The collector is giving me a hard time to clear up this mess even after sending proof of my cancelled check. He is rude and keeps telling me he is researching the matter. In the meanwhile he still tells me I owe payment for those 2 months. Who can I talk to or file a complaint against this collector. Thank you

Re: payment posted incorrect

Unless you file a suit against them, I don't see any complaints doing much. Do you know how many complaints they must get against them? On top of that, they could just claim they the person working on your case is inept and that they didn't do anything on purpose. I'm not one to stick up for CA's but I'm not sure where you are going with this.

The FTC is a good place to start to complain, also your State AG's office, the BBB, etc.

I would be more concerned about your credit report. I suggest you check it to see what they did to it.
