Personal Debt and forming LLC

Can an LLC be held liable for a members personal debt that has nothing to do with the business?

The member's ownership interest in the LLC can be attached, by legal process. The process is kind of complicated, so the LLC should talk to a lawyer if it gets legal papers served on it.

However, the LLC does NOT owe the member's debts.

You really should have an attorney available to answer questions for your business. Find an attorney who handles small businesses, located not too far from you.
