Purchase made but co signer not present

1 year ago me and my live in boyfriend went to a pet store to purchase a dog. we needed a good co signer. so i called my father to ask him to co sign. the employees of the store told me all i need is his info he can give it to me over the phone. so he did. i signed the form as buyer #1 and my boyfriend signed as buyer #2. we agreed that he would have to make the payments for the dog. but we moved about a few months later to seperate homes. i had made every single payment up untill the month we moved. he has the dog. now a investigator is calling me saying i commited fraud by signing my fathers name. but i looked at a copy of the contract and my fathers name is not on there signed my boyfriend signed HIS OWN NAME. so now my question is who is responsible for this payment of the dog? where is the fraud commited? And should i stop paying the investigator money untill he can show me proof that i committed fraud? idon't remeber signing any forms with my fathers signture and if i did aren't the emplyees just as guilty for letting me sign that contract with out him present? please help me And should i get and laywer?
