Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

reinstatement of the statute of limitations

An attorney is threatening to sue someone I know over medical debt. He was advised by her that because the debt is so old, the statute of limitations is in effect. He replied by saying that he paid money to reinstate the debt and extend the statute of limitations. Is there a such thing?

Re: reinstatement of the statute of limitations

Who is he? The attorney or the person who owes the debt? Depending on the amount, this person may want to get an attorney. However, if it is small, it may not make sense.

No.

The statute of limitations can be extended if the debtor makes a payment or, in some cases, promises to make a payment. Someone who buys an old debt gets no more right to collect that debt than the original creditor.
