Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Small Claims Court Defense
I work in an office building with over 15 offices in it. We all share the same street address - the only difference is company names and suite numbers. I signed for a UPS package that did not have a suite number or company name on it. It was a food item and I signed for it because we recieve food samples on a daily basis (we work for a supermarket). I am being sued by the sender for the cost of the item shipped. Am I liable for the sender not addressing his package correctly?

Re: Small Claims Court Defense
You have said you are being sued. You have not said how much money is involved. I would need to know that, to decide whether it makes sense to spend money on a lawyer to defend this, or may be cheaper to simply pay them or talk them down to a lower amount and pay it.
To answer your question, no, what you describe does NOT make you liable for the cost.
However, you MUST defend the lawsuit, and prove to the Judge that you are right.
If you would like, give me a call; I am in northern New Jersey. I will discuss this with you; the telephone consultation will be free. I would be happy to help you out.
