Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
My son bought gas in Northern NJ last week with a credit card. After about 5 minutes the attendant gave the card back and said OK. He started to drive off and pulled the nozzel out of the pump. The police were summoned, and the officer didn't write a report, and told them to exchange information -(names and addresses) and work it out between them. My son told them it wasn't his fault. He just received a letter from an attorney for over $600.00, with the attorney's fee of $250.00 included. The incident just happened less than a wee ago. What should he do?

Tough call. To hire an attorney will probably cost you more than $600 unless you have a regular attorney that handles various issues for the family. At the same time, they would have to pay an attorney to sue him.
It seems like this is just a letter and not a complaint. I would sit down with a local attorney and review the letter to see exactly what it is and how you should respond.
You should report the matter to the insurance carrier for the auto. The damage occurred as a result of operation of the vehicle and it is likely covered under the policy.
