Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Statue of limitation
What is the statute on a car repo? I had a car repo'ed around twenty years ago and a law firm just contacted me and said I had to repay the dept. Is there a statute on this dept.

Re: Statue of limitation
The next time you are contacted, you should ask for more information about the debt. If you were sued on the deficiency, the judgment would be good against you for 20 years. If there was no suit, the limitations period to sue on the debt would have run in six years provided that it was possible to service you with a summons. So, you need more information.
