The running of the statutory limitations period is a defense available to you. It is not automatic and must be pleaded. That is, your lawyer must answer the complaint and raise the defense.

Since you apparantly ignored the complaint, a default judgment was enteres against you. If you want to have this judgment vacated, you need to act promptly. I recommend that you engage a lawyer to help you. If I can assist you, call or email.
