Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey
Swindled and Deceived because I trusted him.
I was talked into using my credit card to lend someone $1,500 so he could purchase an engagement ring for his girlfriend. He promised to pay me back in full within the next two weeks with his next paycheck. That was September 1999. I have been paid $100.to
this date. Many excuses have replaced repayment. Now he threatens to never repay me. He will not talk by phone and refuses to return the ring to the jeweler. He says he lost is job.

What a guy! He can't afford to get engaged so he borrows money and then he stiffs the friend that allows him to get the girl. This marriage is going to be real successful! Anyway, you can sue the deadbeat in Small Claims Court in the county in which he lives. Go to the Clerk's office and they will help you through the process. When you go to Court, be sure you bring your credit card statement (and the receipt from the engagement ring, hopefully with his signature on it, to show that he incurred the expense in your name). You will need this to establish your damages to the Judge. You will then get a judgment against this guy and then you can attempt to collect. That is another problem. But we can talk about that after you get your judgment. If you want me to assist you, feel free to call me at 856-546-8010. Mention LawGuru and the call is free. By the way, how well do you know the girl? Does she know that her ring was paid for with borrowed (and then unrepaid) funds?
