Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

wage garnishment

Are you responsible for paying a court officer and interest as part of your wage garnishent I was paying a wage garnishment it ended as of Jan. 2, 2009 I thought. until more money was deducted. I called the attorneys office and was told I have to pay the court officer and interest. I was never told this initially. and there was only one amount on the actual summons I was being sued for. nothing about any court officer and interest. until I had to call. What is going in? and what are they pulling? Thanks for your interest.

Re: wage garnishment

If it is necessary for a court officer to collect a judgment, his fee is added to the amount of the judgment. They don't work for free and, since the judgment debtor caused the work by not paying immediately, the judgment debtor pays it. Interest accrues at the judicial rate from the date that the judgment is entered until it has been paid. These amounts are established by law which everyone is presumed to know. The extra costs can be avoided by paying the judmgment when it is entered.
