Wife debt protection

Is there any way for a wife to protect herself from husband's gambling debt and non-support of the family?

Re: Wife debt protection

Divorce comes to mind.

Although a spouse's separate debts do not automatically become the responsibility of the other spouse, much mischief can follow when a spouse is financially irresponsible. This is especially likely if there are draws being made against joint accounts in order to pay (gambling) debts. I have often had to file a defensive bankruptcy for a spouse whose assets have been spent and credit ruined by a spendthrift mate. In that process, I often find credit cards that were opened without the other spouses knowledge or consent, but still in both names; look for things like that too. Add nonsupport and you have to ask yourself why you are sticking around.

Get some good advice from your spiritual counsellor and decide whether you really want to stay in this relationship. If not, get some advice from your legal counsellor.
