Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

In 2012 I was charged with 4th Degree Theft, (traffic and/or other violation) not sure what that has to do with theft. Now because of this it is very hard for me to find a job or keep one until they see my misdemeanor. I want to know how long until I can get this off my record, the process, the cost?? I wish I could do it right now. I learned from my mistake and have suffered plenty from not having a job. Please Help and thank you.

Also, I know I am not a criminal. I just did not see another area regarding my situation.
