Good question. The answer usually depends on which county the person is sentenced. For example, in Essex County (where the county jail is so crowded, it's about to bust), the Jail can't wait to get you out on the 120th day of your sentence (provided you don't cause problems while you're inside). The overcrowding problem benfits inmates because the Parole Board's guidelines are 120 days minimum for a 364 day sentence. In other counties, say Bergen for instance, you will be in much longer. Don't exxpect to do as good as those in Essex. You may be in for betwenn 5 to 7 months.

It is a jail sentence, meaning a sentence served in the county jail instead of a prison sentence under the control of the department of corrections.
