Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I am 22, when I was a high school junior (age 16-17) myself and two other friends (minors) were caught stealing at a "Kohls" (first offense for me). I admit we were young and dumb. We were taken in to the Clifton city hall holding sell. I was the only one who was finger printed. They made me write a letter explaining what I did and an apology as a form of punishment to basically be cleared of what I had done. Of course I was told that the only consequence would be to not be allowed at kohls anymore. However, ever since then I've applied for many jobs in which I was denied because of that incident. I remember even applying for a cvs in Passaic, NJ, and was told that I had something under my name that would not admit me to be hired by various stores. Being that I was finger printed as a minor and this was about 6 years back, can I take legal action against the city of Clifton in NJ?

Rather than looking to sue the Municipality of Clifton, you should look into whether or not you are able at this stage to expunge your record, As a juvenile and based on what you have posted , i am not clear if you actually plead guilty to an actual Disorderly persons offense or If it is only your record of arrest that is coming up. Based on what you have written, you should be able to expunge your record. You can consult a lawyer or attempt to do it yourself, They provide kits online (New Jersey Courts on Line) that tell non attorneys how to prepare the paper work and file a Petition for Expungement if they cannot afford a lawyer, again I am only commenting based on what you have posted, but it seems that an expungement would be your better choice, feel free to call with any questions (201)-894-9498, good luck
