Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

My 13 year old brother was at school during lunch and said to one of his friends "I'll stab you" joking around. The following day he brought a pen that when opened was a letter opener about 3 inches long and showed one of his friends. So apparently the friend he said he would stab brought it to a teacher's attention and essentially he got suspended and then charged by the local police department with a 3rd degree offense for a concealed weapon. My parents are being told they need to have a lawyer represent him in court or he will be put in jail but they don't qualify for the public defender. They can't afford a lawyer, can't they just represent him themselves or must they have a lawyer?

Call me at 732/773/2768 any time to diiscuss this. If they don't qualify for a PD, they must have money for an attorney. He is facing serious charges so there has to be someone that has a credit card, a HELOC they can get, something they can sell, etc. While the charges are serious, we are not talking tens of thousands of dollars.

There is great fear of school violence involving a student and a deadly weapon due to various instances of same which lead to multiple deaths in this country. Your brother needs a lawyer and his parents are legally required to provide one. If your parents can not afford to pay anything to a lawyer

there is a problem because no self-employed lawyer wants to work for nothing. There are a lot of lawyers who will try to be accommodating as to the fee. I am one of those lawyer. Your parents can give me a call, if there want to, at 201/342/7933.

This is a very serious charge. Your brother needs a lawyer or else he might actually go to jail. I would be happy to discuss a legal fee payment plan with your parents, one that they could afford. Please ask them to contact me. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-
