Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

My 24 year old drug addicted son who has stolen thousands of dollars, harasses threats and itimidates my wife, myself and also my 19 year old son until we give up money has been threatening to call the FBI on me for untrue things. We will be getting a restraining order soon as the local police have seen the damage he has done to our property. He will say anything to get what he wants (drugs). I am not afraid of the allegations he is making but am worried he will make up something so absurd that they will come to my job and take me away in cuffs and possibly cost me my job. He already called the police on my wife accusing her of stealing money from him (long story)! We have tried every thing we can to help him. spent-given thousands. We have been reluctant to do any thing because he has a good job and were hoping he could change. Sorry for the rambling but would law enforcement at least investigate before doing anything to me or my wife? Any advice?

Getting the attention of the FB.I is not so easy. They do not deal with small, alleged offenses. They leave that to the local police. The local police seem to be aware of your son's conduct. You need not live in fear.
