Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Please Help Me
I am 16 years old. Recently i shocked another person on my bus with a homemade taser. I made the taser out of a disposable camera, I tried it on myslef and it gave a shock similiar to that of a prank pen. My intention was to prank the other boy, he is 15, with it. When i did this he jumped and everyone laughed including him. I tried the ''taser'' on two other peole before him and they siad that it didnt hurt it just gave the shock of a prank pen. Afterward, I asked the boy that i shocked to honestly tell me if it hurt, because i wanted to do it to other people. he answered that it did not hurt. Later, during my first period class i was
called down to my vice pinciplas office and was told that he may need to be hospitalizedd because he developed a welt where i shocked him, and he also experienced numbnes to his hand. i was supsended. WHat do i do? Can my parents get sued and loose thier house? Can i go to jail? My vp told me that this was nd degree assualt, is this true? Ca the family sue? Please i need help and will take any advice. Thank you.

Re: Please Help Me
All things are possible, but this case seems to be manageable with the assistance of an attorney.
I doubt that there is a permanent injury to anyone which would justify a claim against you and your parents of any worrisome size.
You and your parents should be hiring an attorney.
Call me if you like.

You can potentially be in a lot of trouble for this (fines, juvenile detention (jail)). You need to tell your parents about what happened if you haven't already. Once you tell your parents please ask them to contact me. I am a lawyer who does a lot of juvenile criminal cases so I can probably help you a lot. Ask your parents to contact me. Thank you.

This sounds crazy. You need an attorney ASAP to stop any damage you may have alredy done, i.e. making statements. What's probably going to happen here is that they are going to use the criminal case to pave the way for a civil case. It sounds like he's going to wind up going to a psych, take time off of school, complain about the fear of riding on the bus, etc. This case is a joke but sadly its going to take a good attorney to get everyone (i.e. the judge) to understand that.
My initial consultations are always free, so if your parents would like to speak to me have them call me at 732/247/3340.
Good luck!
