Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

My 21 yr old son was charged with 2c:35-10a(4).

For various reasons he won't use a lawyer or get the police report.

Can I get the police report so I can see a lawyer for him or is the report private? Thanks in advance.

Each police department gives reports out under a different procedure. You should call the records bureau of the police department and explain your situation and what you want and find out what they say.

Your son is a grown man and since you are not involved in this incident you do not have a right to get his police report. I know you say he doesn't want to use a lawyer, but ask him to call me anyway. I have a lot of experience helping young people who get in trouble with the law, and it won't cost him anything to just talk to me about his case. I'll be happy to give him legal advice at no charge if he calls, so ask him to do so. He should really not be going to court on a criminal charge without at least consulting with a lawyer.
