Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

assault

I was assaulted by the ex-wife of my former boyfriend (he's back with her apparently). She hit me several times on different parts of my body with a leaf rake and grabbed my hair and wouldn't let go. I have welts, scratches and bruises to show for it. I did go to the police to file a complaint and went to the ER to have my injuries looked at and documented. He (my ex-boyfriend), as a way to deter me from going to the police, said that she has ''20'' witnesses (all her family who were there visiting at that time) willing to sign a affidavit to say that I threw the first punch. That is a total lie because she charged me with the rake, started hitting me, and I just pretty much tried to defend myself. I didn't fight back or do anything to harm her. She, on the other hand, was like a raving lunatic.

Now can they do that even if that wasn't true? Wouldn't that be committing perjury? How do I prove to the judge that they are lying?
