Is this attempted assault?
A person tried with all his might to close my hand in a door. I was stronger and able to prevent it. Is this attempted assault and can I press charges?

Based upon the limited information provided and without knowing more facts of your case, you may file charges against this person for assault among other things. I recommend that you go to your local police department as soon as possible to file the charges.
