Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I had a background check performed on me for a job. The company informed that I had a criminal offense reported from 2010 in Hudson County NJ. I called the criminal records department for Hudson county and they told me I had an outstanding warrant for my arrest for a burglary charge. I was not charged with anything when I was arrested and I was sent home the same day I was incarcerated. I was told I needed to come in to deal with the issue but I have moved out of state since then and no public defenders handle cases outside of my county. Any advice would be appreciated

You will most likely need to turn yourself in to the local authorities in Hudson County. If you qualify for the public defender, one will be appointed for you. You should turn yourself in with the assistance of, and preferably accompanied by, an attorney, who may be able to arrange for bail on your behalf by communicating with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. Under no circumstances should you give a statement to the authorities.

There is some chance that an attorney may be able to communicate with the court to have the warrant lifted and to schedule a new court date, if you can provide documentation that you moved prior to being charged and truly did not know about the charges. You will almost certainly have to appear, unless that lawyer can negotiate a plea to a much reduced offense.
