Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Bad Checks

Dear Sir,

My daughter is 32 and met someone that took her for her savings with 3 bad checks -she met him on line and belived

in him when he borrowed the money sending her the checks

that she deposited and was told they was bad.she has no income right now for she has MS His checks was from connectcut and I don't know what to do.The legal ade

said it can't help and others say they don't go out of jersy. I don't want her to loss her money. can you help

This is a situatin that should be treated as a police matter. If you know the town in New Jersey where the person lives who tricked yor daughter, then you should contact them to arrest this person for "theft by deception" or some other form of theft. If he is convicted, then he can be ordered by the judge to pay back your daughter. You may also be able to sue him in the Connecticut court to get a judgment against him for the amount of money he took from your daughter.
