bail

how's it work?

the bondsman charges 10% but what does he pay the court?

the court gets ??? from the bondsman but what do they keep if the defendant shows up for trial?

You pay them 10% and they keep 10% (they really pocket about 5% and the rest goes to the insurance company). If you skip out, they promise to find you. Otherwise, the insurance company in on the hook for the money.

The bondsman give the court a bond, which is a statement by an insurance company that it will pay the bail if the defendant fails to appear in court.

The ten percent charge is the fee for giving the court a bond and it is retained by the bondsman and and not returned when the case is over.
