Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Beening charged with the third degree. My wife had wrote out a check for 1700 for service done on my car. At the time she thought we had enough money in that account. Well come to.find out we didnt and the check bouce. We tryed to come up with the money but just couldn't make it. I then had received a letter in the mail saying i need to appear in intake at the court house. There they ask question about my background and my income. So i didnt qualify for a public defender, but the man told me to try and settled the matter by pay what i owe befor the next court date. So i did, the owner told me he will drop the charges. Now im at the next court date, i over heard a prosecutor talking about a case the sound like mines. I heard her talking and telling how she want me to plea guilty so i can do prison again. Then she said if i get a lawer i will only get PTI or probation.

So my question is...

1. How can I get this matter drop?

2. What is my chances of going back to prison?

3. What is PTI.

I Have a very stable home and I really don't need or afford prison time. one time is bad enough will to pay for my family life.

Really need help someone willing to take on the state and fight to win not to settle. To mini plea deals in this state.

PTI stands for Pretrial Intervention, it is a diversionary program that allows someone who has never been convicted of a crime to potentially avoid having a criminal record. If you complete the program anywhere from 1 to five years the charges will ultimately be dismissed. However you mention that you have already having done time in Prison, if you already have a criminal record then you will not be eligible to apply for PTI. If the check bounced by accident, that may potentially be a defense but it would obviously help to pay the money that is owed.
