Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

bonfire on beach

I was recently arressted for making a bonfire on the beach. The sign infront of the beach clearly states No swimming, No dogs, but does not at all mention anything about a bonfire. They charged me with creating a hazardous condition. First of all the fire was very much under control. Secondly I had no way of knowing that building such a fire was illegal. I dont know if those things matter. I just want to know what is the best way to go about handleing this situation. My court date is August 13th please give me an answer A.S.A.P thank you very much.

Re: bonfire on beach

hi -

the 1st thing that you should probably do is hire a lawyer to go with you to court. you'll do better that way than if you try to do it on your own. a lawyer can negotiate with the prosecutor and perhaps plea bargain the charge down to a lesser one. feel free to call me at 609 263-0089 if you have any other questions. good luck !!
