Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Boyfriend's Brother Planted Drugs
My boyfriend's brother was
imprisoned for 22 years for murder.
He has stolen his parent's
prescription medication,
stolen things from my boyfriend and
me, and has played all kinds of
psychological games. He is a
sociopath-intelligent and
charming, and can convince almost
anyone of almost anything.
On May 31, I got up early to go the
store with Jake's (my boyfriend's)
mother. I'm sure his brother chose
this particular day because it was a
rare occasion when I wasn't there in
the morning. His brother called the
paramedics, claiming Jake was trying
to commit suicide. He hadn't seen or
talked to Jake that morning, and did
not come to his bedroom door to
check on him. He was setting him
up. The paramedics came, saw that
Jake was fine, and left. Then the cops
came to search his room. They found
their parents' prescription Lortab in
his room. Jake knew nothing about
it, and we both knew immediately
that Gary had put them there. Jake
was arrested, the three of us were
questioned, and Jake went to jail for
the night until I bailed him out the
next morning.
Jake just got notice that his trial is
scheduled for June 19. Cannot afford
an attorney. What should we do?

Re: Boyfriend's Brother Planted Drugs
How do you know you can't afford an attorney? Did you at least try? You had money for bail, right? Many attorneys take credit cards.
If you really can't afford one, then there is nothing you can do is there? You have an attorney, a public defender and he'll just have to roll the dice with him or her.
best of luck!
Re: Boyfriend's Brother Planted Drugs
You need to see about hiring an attorney who could take a lien against the bail, or credit cards. If you cannot afford attorney tell the Judge when you go to court you want to apply for the public defender.
