Car Stolen?

My mother gave my brothe permission to use her car for work.We have since discovered that he took the car to kennedy airport and left in in the daily lot and got on a plane to Calif telling noone. The parking fees are now about 300.00 and I want to know how can my mother relinquish responsibility to this. the car is 25 years old and worth practically nothing. She has some personal belongings locked in the car and brother has the key wherever he may be.

Re: Car Stolen?

This is a question for a New York lawyer. Try my very good friend Harry Batchelder Jr. who practices in New York City and/or Brooklyn.

I have his telephone number in a very old file.

So look him up in the yellow pages or ask the New York State Bar for his telephone number.

Tell Harry that Vic Hobbs said to answer your question.

I'd advise you as a lay person in New York to call the storage yard the car is in. Tell them the car was stolen, and ask them to return the stuff in the car to you. Then if you're willing to give up the car tell them they may auction the car, which they will do anyway. They may want to see a copy of the police report you filed and I'd show it to them.

If you want legal advice in New York ask my buddy Harry. He was a Federal attorney for a while, and has had a colorful legal career. He is eminently qualified to give you legal advise.

Say hello to him for me. Vic Hobbs

Lots of luck
