Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

can i be charged with purgery

I had an item stolen, I called the police gave them my statement. Before the police arrived I called the person who stole the item and I left a voice mail message on thier phone. In this message i told the thief that i was going to the police and giving them a chance to return the stolen item...i also told them they would not want me looking for them...I did not right this in the statement and am now being threatened with being charged with purgery??? Can I be charged with purgery by leaving that out of the statement???? The detective apparently has this voice mail recording on file.... I do not deny saying it and everything in my statement is true, just the phone call to the thief was omitted...Can I be charged with Purgery

No, I don't see how they can charge you. This is a really wierd situation since you are the victim. I'm worried that they have it out for you for some reason.

I have an office in Toms River so I'm not that far from you. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case. My initial consultations are always free.

It seems quite a stretch to charge you for perjury or false swearing when what you stated was all true. Perjury is testifying falsely while under oath. False swearing is giving a notarized statement which has substantial untruths.

Call me if you like.
