Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Can I be charged in the state of New jersey, as a minor for shoplifting when my rights were not read to me? And the statement of complaint states that the female with me was the one who did the stealing?

I was charged with stealing two eyeliner pens, which my friend had stolen; I did not. They raised the price of the eyeliner to 8.56 on the police report, when the actual price was 2.39+tax. I am being charged as second offense theft, when I haven't stolen since The first time I tried and had gotten caught. I was fifteen at the time of being arrested, and as I said my rights were not read to me. What can I do? I can't afford a lawyer and I am not sure what I have to do. My court date is in 4 days, please help!

You are looking at some serious problems because you are now being charged as a second offender for a theft charge. Since you are still under age 18 then your parents must be notified of this and must appear in court with you. If they can't afford an attorney, then they have the right to apply for the public defender to represent you. Regarding the rading of your rights to you, this only matters if you made some statement to the police that they want to use against you. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail.
