Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Clearning Up a Criminal Record

I was wondering how long a criminal record can show up on your report. It has been 14 years since my crime and I am still getting rejected for jobs for it. Can you please tell me how I can get this removed from my record. I was young and influenced by an adult and now I did my time and want to move on.Like I said it has been 14 years.

You may be entitled to have your record "expunged," but certain offenses cannot be. Expungement removes your arrest records and seals the conviction. Feel free to call me for a free consultation.

Re: Clearning Up a Criminal Record

You must hire an attorney to file whatis called a petition for expungement. Not all criminal acts can be removed from your record, but some can be.

I am an experienced criminal defense attorney, you can call my office for a free phone consultation.

Clearning Up a Criminal Record

Many criminal convictions can be "expunged." The process takes approximately three to four months.

Not all convictions can be expunged. If yours was an indictable conviction that can be expunged, there is a ten-year waiting period before you can apply for it. The ten years begins to run on date of sentence, on completion of payment of all fines, on completion of probation, or on release from incarceration, whichever occurs last. Based on your information, you have already "served out" your waiting period, so you could be eligible right now to apply.

Lawyers generally charge from $650.00 to $1,000.00 or more, for an expungement. It is possible to do it yourself. However it is a rather elaborate procedure. There is much room to screw it up.

I hope this helps.

Re: Clearning Up a Criminal Record

Thanks for your inquiry. Expungement of most type of crimes can be done in New Jersey although the records would still be available if you were applying for a law enforcement job.

The process is to file a Petition For Expungement and this is usually filed by an attorney. I handle these types of cases and offer free consultations to see if your situation qualifies for expungement - (there are various requirements such as time from conviction, types of offense, etc.) You can also read more at my website - www.expungemynjrecord.com.

Feel free to contact me by e-mail, telephone, etc. and I will be happy to speak with you/provide you with a free consult.

Thanks,

Daniel B. Kelley
