some one close to me was picked up on a drug charge in dec. the police officer told him they would work with him and not proceed if he cooperated. a while passed and he called the office but he basically just told him to hold tight. but he now just got a notice to appear for a pre-ind conference. what would you suggest and what does this mean.

This means that he has been indicted and that the criminal case against him will proceed. While there is some chance he may still be able to cooperate, he should not do so without an attorney.
