Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I as in court today on simple assault charges . I had a customer in my electronic store we came to a disagreement and started acting. He fell to the floor and claimed I struck him in the chest. They kept delaying the court dates and today we came to an agreement to pay the court costs which I thought would dismiss the case but I had to say that's I was guilty in order to finish this case even though I'm innocent. The question is can the plaintif still sue me or no? Because that's what it seems like and will he have a case? Can I fight it?

What a lousy situation. I am glad that you got the case over, but are you sure what happened here? You did NOT want to plead guilty to assault. And yes, the plaintiff can still sue you, and that is another problem.

You want to call me and get control over all of this. Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and I will go over this with you, and give you some advice.

I agree with Mr. Davies. Call an attorney to see what happened and to see if you need to do anything to prepare yourself against a possible suit. I'd be happy to help you but you may want to call Mr. Davies first and see if he can help you with this one.

The other attorneys are correct that you need to see counsel to prepare for a possible lawsuit. Was the other side represented bu counsel? Did you say what you did as opposed to "guilty"? There is a big difference as to the evidence that may be used against you.

If you would care to consult on this matter please feel free to call for an appointment.
