Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

a credit card was opened in my name in 2008. i am not aware of opening it. i told an office that i lived with an ex boyfriend, wasent sure if he opended it. i certainly wasent accusing him. they said they would look into it. they found out that he probably did not. I said I never made a charge against him, why would i without proof. I never criminally accused anyone. I asked they do you you think I was making a false claim, they said no, you tell me. I said I am, I was not. They asked if I wanted to drop the investigation, I said yes. next thing i know i have this charge against me and have to appear in court. I am SCARED TO DEATH!!! What happened??????>? I just wanted to send a report to the collection company for Capital One Credit card, so I could get it off my credit report. After consulting with an attorney, Capital One gave me the wrong information. I wasen't supposed to file a police report, just send a written report to the collection agency. HELP1111
