Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
My daughter age 14 was caught shoplifting in Sea Isle, NJ. She had stolen about $150.00 worth of merchandise. The owner decided not to press charges but the municipality wants to prosecute. This is her 1st offense. Will this incident affect her going to college, receiving schlorships and will this record be with her the rest of her life?

She is a minor and her case will be heard in juvenile court and juvenile records at not available to the public, generally. I feel confident that the prosecutor will agree to dismiss the charge once
your lawyer speaks to him or her.
Call me if you like.
While I would be more than happy to help her, this is a rather minor charge so I'd rather refer you to good attorney that I know from down there. Call me to discuss.
