can my daugther's father press charges on me for taking money out of his 401k and depositing it into our joint account for the bills in our household

I would guess that to take the funds out you had to forge the father's name, committing forgery and theft. You COULD be prosecuted. Since the funs were removed by means of theft and forgery the father could insist that the funds are still in his 401K, causing the 401k custodian to come after you for compensation and to seek your prosecution.
