Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Domestic Violence?

My wife smacked me in the face about four times, then I wound up hitting her back. You could see a mark on her face. The police were called, and she or the police filed a complaint. I thought there was a warrant for my arrest, but when I went to turn myself in they said there wasn't and I just got something in the mail to go to court.

I just found out my wife is pregnant and we do not want to go thru with all these court proceedings. If she appears in court to testify in my favor will charges be dropped?

Re: Domestic Violence?

Maybe. The judge will ask your wife a bunch of questions to make absolutely sure that she is voluntarily dismissing the charge and is not being coerced into doing it. If he doesn't feel that she is freely dismissing the charge he may make you go to trial. If you have any other questions please contact me. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-

Re: Domestic Violence?

You should speak with an attorney ASAP. Your situation is very common. Because of that, courts, police, prosecutors, etc get upset that they have to deal with this all of the time. Thus, they are taking a hard line. She will have to go to court. I am sure the cops signed charges so thus, she cannot drop them. She must have told the police something or you wouldn't have any charges. She cannot get on the stand and say something else or she will be charged with numerous crimes.

An attorney can help you avoid all of the above so I suggest you call one. My initial consultations are always free, so feel free to call me at 732/247/3340.

Re: Domestic Violence?

If you are talking about a criminal charge the prosecutor will probably agree to dismiss the charge against you if she tells him all the facts and circumstances of the subject incident leading to the charge.

The assistance of an attorney should be

helpful.
