Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

dropping charges

If you were booked for a crime and the Prosecutor decides there is not enough evidence to go to trial, do they contact your attorney with the decision. If so, how long does this usually takes?

Re: dropping charges

It depends on the dialog they had with your attorney. If there is none, then they won't call. If there is, they will. However, its rare that they drop charges as its more likely that they would remand it back to municipal court.

The prosecutor would send a notice to your attorney or you. Sometimes it is good to hire an attorney insure the dismissal.
