Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Drunk and Disorderly summons in NJ

I was taken in but not read rights or booked other than giving them information on my license. I was sent to the hospital where my friends signed me out. I have a ticket for drunk and disorderly. I am wondering if this is a misdemeanor or if it is more serious. I would like to keep my record clean and want to know if I need a lawyer. Thanks.

Usually, a prospective client gives me a copy of the complaint filed against him so that I can research

the statute involved. If you have to ask the question you need a lawyer.

Call me if you like.

Re: Drunk and Disorderly summons in NJ

Although there is no specific statute known as "Drunk and Disorderly" in New Jersey, most likely what you wre charged with was Disorderly Conduct. If this is true then you are charged with what is known as a Petty Disorderly Persons Offense. This carries a maximum of $500 in fines plus other mandatory costs as well as up to 30 days in jail. Each case is unique, so I can't give you full advice on your case without discussing it with you in more detail. In general though I would never recommend that someone go to court on a violation of the New Jersey criminal code without a lawyer. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail and explore what I can do to help you. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Re: Drunk and Disorderly summons in NJ

I agree with the other two attorneys, for a minute there I thought I was going crazy since I have at least the title of most crimes under 2C memorized.

I suggest you get back to us with the statute number, i.e. NJSA 2C:XX-XX and we can help you. However, I'm sure it is nothing major but for someone like you, any criminal offense can have a major impact in your life.

My initial consultations are always free so call me at 732/247/3340 and give me the correct information and I can let you know exactly what you are looking at.
