what is the no early release act mean.

there has been a trial with my freind were she stabbed her husband in self defence the husband payed for the legal defenc of his wife and yet he was the prosecuters star witness.now is that call for a re trial or maybe even a dismissal.oh he would not let his wife laywer go for domestic abuse of course.she did not qualify for a legal aid due to his monies and realestate..now she has been found guilty and has ben sentence for 5 years 85% mandatory no early release act also has been givin.how much of that would have to be serve even with good time. thank you for your time carrol

If this means that she had a defense of battered wife syndrome & it was not presented, she may have been denied her right to effective counsel. Also, she only has 45 days from the date of sentencing to appeal and should therefore consult with her own attorney ASAP.
