Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

elderly abuse

I need to know what kind of lawyer I would seek to help me in charging my mother's ex-husband of elderly abuse on her father. He ''borrowed'' money from my Grandfather $22000.00 over the past 20 years and has always told him he would repay him and never has. My Grandfather was so nieve - he believes in everyone and trusts everyone. He would keep asking for money and keep promising to pay. He is a very good con-artist and I want to try and go after him. The ''stealing'' was done in NJ. I live in Florida and the ex-husband lives in South Carolina. The only other problems I see is my Grandfather passed away in December 2004 so the ex-husband now owes the estate. I mentioned it to him and now he doesn't answer my calls. One other thing is that he always wanted ''cash'' and my Grandfather gave him cash!! I do have proof that he sold alot of his savings bonds and had to take out a loan for $8000.00. It infuriates me that this man has abused my poor Grandfather. He was the type of man that would do anything for anybody. When the ex-husband sold his house in NJ he promised my Grandfather he would be first on the list to be paid and guess what? Nothing!!! He would just keep telling him I didn't get the money from the sale of house.

Re: elderly abuse

This does not constitute elder abuse in criminal court. In Florida I don't see any criminal action. If there were any documents to support your case maybe you could sue him, but even then...So my short answer is this isnot criminal conduct and you should try a civil remedy.
