What is the mandatory prison sentence in New Jersey for eluding the police? A plea of five years was suggested, should the person take it?

If its a second degree, the prison term will be 5 to 10 and he would have to serve 85% of that. However, its kind of hard to get a good second degree case so the typical plea is 3 years. Unless that person has a big record, 5 years sound like a bad plea but a lot depends on the facts. I had a guy that smashed into several cars through multiple towns and he wound up doing 9 months.
