Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Empty beer cans -- contributing to deliquency of minor
My daughter is being charged in nj with contributing to the delinquency of a minor & threatened with a year in jail. She's 22, and was caught driving with her 16-year old cousin and an accumulation of empty beer cans in her van. The prosecutor has not alleged that she was drinking & driving, or that she allowed or induced her underage cousin to drink. No breathalizer test was given. Is the prosecutor just blowing smoke or is there real risk here? I don't know what to tell her, and she's worried to death.

It is very difficult to answer your question without seeing the actual charges. The prosecutor usally does not play games. I would contact a crimnal lawyer as soon as possible.
If you wish, I would be more than happy to give your daugther a free phone consultation.
