Expungement of 31 year old misdameanor

I have an old criminal offense (B&E, Larceny) from over 30 years ago. I've been gainfully employed all those years and recently got laid off. Now this is coming back to haunt me. How would I go about expunging this thing I did at 18 and am now a 53 year old man looking a job. Since I work in electronics most jobs are asking for a ''full'' background check. Is there any way this can be do ''painlessly''?
