Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
expunging or sealing criminal record
How would someone go about having their criminal record sealed or expunged prior to the completion of their sentencing term? The felony charge is an illegal possession of a handgun for which the person served 60 days in federal prison.

Re: expunging or sealing criminal record
It is a bit unclear if your question relates to NJ law, MD law, or federal law.
Under NJ state law, for felonies, you cannot have the record expunged until 10 years AFTER you have completed your sentence/fine, etc. There is no provision to expunge a record before you even finish your sentence.
Your question also appears to relate to Federal law, which would be a different answer. Generally, Federal law does not provide for expungements. There are only a very few exceptions which relate to things like police misconduct and other unique situations.
I am not at all familiar with expungements under MD law.
In closing, if it is a Federal conviciton, there is probably no way to have it expunged. If a NJ state crime, you are too early at this time.
