Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Extortion Letter??
I was recently a witness in a law
case involving someone in my
town who was in an
harrassment case. This was their
second offense and they struck a
plea bargain for stalking a woman.
I received a letter supposedly from the
lawyer of the stalker who
said that '' this letter is for
settlement purposes only,
and nothing shall be admissable
in court'' seemingly asking me
for money without mentioning
money. It did not seem like
professional lawyer wording,
with one page legal paper the
other plain paper and was typed
on a typewriter. I believe the
letter is a fraud and the
''stalker'' is trying to extort money
from me by pretending to be his
own lawyer without going to trial
--but did mention the client
(the stalker) is inclined to issue
a lawsuit -- on the basis that
on an internet chat forum certain
remarks were taken as his (the
stalker) during his trial, but never
proven to be such, just heresay.
Should i show the police and
my lawyer the letter -- it just
looks mighty odd, and I view
this letter as a form of
harrassment in its own way.
I believe that this stalker
and his lawyer are committing
extortion by asking for
settlement and nothing
in letter admissable in court.
correct?

Re: Extortion Letter??
If you have a lawyer, you should not be on this website. There needs to be a trust between the two of you in order for things to work.
